About our Founder: Jim Fuller

 1983 - Began training at the age of 14 with a member of my church who studied Kung Fu.

1985 -  At the age of 16, enrolled in Joe Corley American Karate with Kent Mitchell in Dekalb County at the Academy of Sports on Snapfinger Woods Dr.

1988 -  Earned 1st degree black belt at age 18 with Joe Corley American Karate.
1988 - At the request of my instructor Kent Mitchell I started teaching the karate classes at the Academy of Sports as lead instructor.

1988 -  Formed United Martial Arts Systems (UMAS) as a rank issuing organization for independent instructors.

1988-1992 - Served as Loss Prevention officer for Kmart Corporation apprehending shoplifters and prevention of employee theft.

1990 - Became head instructor for one of the new Joe Corley Karate locations. 

1990 -  Served as a Police officer for the City of Covington.  Graduated from the Police Academy.  Underwent firearms training.

1992 -  Ranked 4th in the region in mens middle weight black belt fighting in the All Star Karate League (ASKL) Tony Youngs ratings association for all southeastern tournaments.

1990-1994 - Taught karate classes at the Covington YMCA building the largest program at the Y with over 150 members.

1992 -  Earned 2nd degree black belt from Phil Robinson, Sharon Townsend, and Randy Estep at the Covington YMCA.

1993 - Promoted the first UMAS Open Karate Tournament.  ASKL and NASKA rated. 

1994 -  Moved karate program from YMCA to the first UMAS Karate Studio in Covington.  (Still in same location to this day)

1994 - Earned 3rd degree black belt at the House of Karate in Stone Mountain Ga along side Phil Robinson.  Judges were Sharon Townsend and Ken McGuire.
1996 -  Promoted the 2nd UMAS Open Karate Tournament.  Co Sponsored by Courtesy Ford in Conyers. ASKL and NASKA rated.

1997 - Began training with Bob Quinn in Lawrenceville Ga.  Mr. Quinn was a 6th degree Ed Parker black belt.

1998 - Earned 4th degree black belt from Bob Quinn.  Test was held at Mr. Quinns school in Lawrenceville Ga.

1999 - Opened 2nd UMAS Karate location in Conyers Ga in the Hunting Creek plaza.

2003 - Earned 5th degree black belt from Bob Quinn.  

2004 - Opened 3rd UMAS Karate near Lithonia Ga/Hwy 212.

2004 - Moved the Conyers location into a free standing building becoming one of the largest Karate schools in the southeast.

2004 - Opened 1st UMAS Karate franchise in Loganville Ga. Justin Garner owner.

2017 - Applied for and received 6th degree black belt from James Thomas of the Alliance Martial Arts Assoc.

2023 - Moved the Conyers location into a new facility on Hwy 138 in Conyers.

2023 - Applied for and received 7th degree black belt from James Thomas of the Alliance Martial Arts Assoc.
